Federal regulations are very general in nature. Canadian regulations are governed by Canadian Standards Association (CSA), standards B335-15 (R2020), while in the United States, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is the government agency in charge of health and safety and enforces the OSH Act, which includes all OSH workplace regulations. Forklift regulations are found under standard number 1910.178.

In both countries, the Federal regulations place the burden of responsibility on the employer to provide sufficient training to it’s employees. Hopefully you will never encounter this level of regulations as they are only applied in the event of a lawsuit, following a serious accident.

🚨 As of May, 2024, the maximum OSHA penalty for a serious violation of its rules is $13,653 USD.
